Being a Partner Family

The Partner Family System
Habitat homes are built for a family selected on need and a desire to become a homeowner. Typically, these “Partner Families” are living in substandard housing conditions and are unable to buy a home through conventional loans or other home ownership programs.
Habitat philosophy is to provide “a hand up, not a hand out.” This means Partner Families must be willing to work side-by-side with our volunteers for a least 500 hours of sweat equity. There must be a strong desire to accept the responsibilities of home ownership. Classes are provided in home ownership, financial counseling, and home maintenance to all Partner Families.
When the home is built, it is then sold to the Partner Family at cost under a twenty year, interest-free mortgage.
Millcreek Valley Habitat selects Partner Families through an in-depth six step process which includes written applications, credit checks, and several interviews.
If you would like to be considered as a Partner Family or know a deserving family, please call the Family Selection Committee at 761-4687 and ask to have an application sent or download the documents right here in Adobe Acrobat® format.
